OutREACH Cumbria and our T.I.Q work...
Outreach Cumbria is currently developing services for Trans*, Intersex and Queer (TIQ) people across Cumbria and we would welcome your input, ideas and voluntary services. We aim to be inclusive of people across the spectrum of gender diversity so no matter whether you identify as transgender , transsexual, transvestite, cross-dresser, intersex, gender-queer or anything else we are here to support you. At the moment we offer one-to-one counselling in Penrith and Carlisle, andwe are looking to extend this county wide over the next twelve months. We are also exploring the idea of setting up and/or giving guidance and support to support groups and also to running group sessions designed to allow people to explore their understanding of gender and of themselves. Beyond that we are open to suggestions if you have any.
We are currently forging links with local and national organisations working for the benefit of trans* people and are associated with the UK Intersex Association (UKIA). In February 2015 we held our first ‘T-Matters’ symposium bringing together professionals from the NHS, GIC, and Police plus voluntary organisations working in the TIQ and health spheres as well as ordinary TIQ people. This was well received and we hope to repeat this next year.
